OAKVILLE, ON — Using What Works: Strategies for Developing a Literary-Rich Environment in Math, has received a positive review from Dorothea Bryant, OCT, a retired Windsor and Durham area educator who tutors elementary and secondary students in language arts, English and mathematics, in Professionally Speaking magazine, the publication of the Ontario College of Teachers. The magazine of the Ontario College of Teachers featured Using What Works: Strategies for Developing a Literary-Rich Environment in Math in the review section on page 39 of their December 2020 issue, giving teachers a great idea of what the resource is all about.

In the review, Bryant states she feels the resource by David Costello “… is a resource for any grade level because all sections can be adapted to any lesson. It has the potential to help teachers look at problem-solving in new ways.” The full review can be found on the Professionally Speaking website.

Using What Works: Strategies for Developing a Literary-Rich Environment in Math (K–12) is a close look at how strategies that have been successful in language arts can be reimagined and used within a mathematics environment to support students’ achievement in math. This book shows how a holistic approach to instruction and learning, focused on developing literacy skills across subject areas, can benefit both students and teachers — and change the culture of a mathematics classroom.
